Adding Humanure Compost to A Garden

If you make the pile large enough, have enough available nitrogen initially and turn frequently, the pile can be done in several months. My tomatoes were 10 feet tall when I used humanure. However, my relatives and friends were afraid to eat the tomatoes! Even my highly educated father and brother didn't want to eat them - called them "turdmatoes." Most people are not psychologically prepared to accept humanure, and that's a shame. So, I just don't tell them what I use for fertilizer!

It's not so much that they let it rot for so long. If you get the temperature to 188 degrees Fahrenheit (sugar will help accomplish this, like molasses) it'll give the microbes plenty of energy and you'll kill the harmful pathogens. Composted human feces is the best compost because it's full of complex stuff, because we humans eat pretty much anything and everything.

Love your vids joe. Read your free handbook online and was quite impressed. Keep up the good work : )

My understanding on the subject is that it is illegal across the US to use human waste directly in gardens because of the pathogens present in the fecal matter of omnivores. This is why enough time has to pass in the composting process to ensure that all the human waste has been converted into a medium that is useful in a food garden. The extra year of composting that JCJenkins allows after his compost bin is full is ideal for this process. Very informative video. Thank you for sharing.

You must have plenty of space between your garden & the neighbors. Lots of land in a temperate region. Very idealistic, thanks for sharing.

We really should keep on shitting and pissing in our fresh, drinking water and using chemical fertilizer to grow crops. It just makes more sense to waste resources and pollute, dontcha think??

NO WAY.

Excellent! Way back in the natural world I built an ultralight outhouse on skids that I pulled along a trench around my apple trees, burying where I had gone before and trenching where I was to go. Produced the sweetest apples.
what about toilet paper..is there some special tp in the mix or any at all?
