-- MICROINSURANCE INNOVATION FACILITY --
Consumer Education: Lessons Learned and Future Development
The consumer education roundtable at the 3rd Annual Microinsurance Forum in Manila addressed three main issues: content and delivery of education, cost effectiveness, and how to measure the impact of education. Aparna Dalal and Marcia Metcalfe present some of the questions raised during the session and share some of the potential solutions proposed by practitioners based on their own experiences.
Participants discussed the importance of gaining the trust of clients, encouraging participation in consumer education activities, and the strengths, weaknesses and scalability of various consumer education tools and products. In particular, ways to make consumer education more cost effective and determining who should bear the responsibility for its funding were key questions addressed during the session. Finally, participants discussed the impact of insurance education as well as processes to measure the effectiveness of education campaigns on knowledge and sales.
