  • if a coast guard personnel pass's BUD/S and SQT he is a Navy SEAL not a Coast Guard SEAL don't make your self look like an idiot.

  • The Ensign for the Coast Guard gives the coast guard our law enforment abilitys that no other service has. Thats why this program was signed.

  • Well, to those of use who were team members and now retired and involved in the maritime security industry the Coast Guard Seals will be appreciated.

  • @Ticearoni9 Not necessarily, you still have to go through CQB, HALO/HAHO, Weapons, and other training. BUD/S is just the hardest, once your through that your pretty much in

  • @mhoevelman That is true, but I was just comparing how different the roles of SEAL's and CG are. CG is a very valuable asset and i do respect that

  • @KarnKrash --USCG does more than drug missions...A LOT more. It's a moot point, anyway. Program has been shut down by the new Commandant.

  • @KarnKrash But If you pass BUD/S, arent you then a Navy SEAL? Thats what my recruiter told me.

  • To become a SEAL you go through BUD/S - Period! The US Coast Guard is the ONLY branch of the service allowed to board any vessels. That's why there's always a detachment of USCG personnel aboard Navy Ships. I think that this arrangement gives our military a cool tactical advantage! (It was Department of Treasury, Department of Transportation and now Department of Homeland Security)

  • Coast Guard and SEAL's dont belong together, one is combat, other is rescue. Would only benefit VBSS teams catching drug runners.

  • @2003JL - I was a civilian in the armory there when the Coasties were going through. I had a buddy, a Navy GMC, over at WARCOM checking in on them from time to time.

  • @ragenhurt - Correct. Although they will still be "Coasties" though in name only. They'll wear DCU's but the DCU's will say "U.S. Coast Guard" and not "U.S. Navy." This is/was the same for Coasties that were assigned to Coastal Warfare.

  • Pirates joining the best in the business. Very cool
