Opening of Energizer Lithium battery and taking out stripe of Lithium foil. I trim the battery can on the lathe for easier opening. Wall thickness of the can is just 0.25 mm (0.01 inch). Each battery contain about 1 gram of Lithium metal.
all of you, there is a reason he was wearing gloves and immediately put it in mineral oil. lithium is one electron from having a full set of valence electrons and will steal this electron from water . that burning, getting hot, smell is lithium reacting with the water vapour in the air. so if you are to do this, do as he does and put it in mineral oil, lest bad things happen. but if you want to have fun, throw it into a bucket full of water in a wide open space, the lithium should blow up!
Faster, faster, faster! Before it oxidizes!

@Phacias no, your oil has to be aliphatic. something like heptane, octane or decane will work.
