On November 15, Niklas Zennström came to Rotterdam to discuss entrepreneurship in Europe. After the event, HOPE Entrepreneurship talked to him about his vision for European entrepreneurs, the importance of inspiring young people and students to be entrepreneurs and environmental factors can affect entrepreneurship. Watch the video to see the interview, or read the summary below.
Niklas Zennström has a vision for European entrepreneurs: more willing to take risks, and not being afraid to fail. Failure is part of entrepreneurship, it's learning process, says Niklas.
Entrepreneurship is also an important component of exiting the global crisis. Growth by innovation, not cheap debt and financial engineering, is key. That's why it's important to get young people and students interested in entrepreneurship. They will build the next big companies.
Finally, the regulatory and economic environment plays a large role in whether young startups can succeed. In addition to a culture that supports starting up (and joining) companies, you need financial markets and investors that are willing to take risks as well as regulations that don't suffocate small companies.
