oooooh... buddy. YOU sound like a jazz critic, yourself. careful with that. some advice: don't quote jazz critics. PERIOD. don't read "Downbeat" for criticisms but, rather, for artist interviews and such. you already KNOW why. Keith Jarrett is HANDS-DOWN my favorite pianist and i hold his art close to my heart. but, i'd never use him to discredit another artist that he's influenced. Mehldau is truly a gem with a unique and HONEST voice.

I did not find anything close to professing the truth in my statements. If you object to what I say just read Downbeat magazine and you will see "Beauty" being ranked over and over by the Critics Pool and Readers Pool. I agree that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I just think that Keith Jarrett is a real touchstone for musicians of that genre,including Brad Mehldau. There seems to be a consensus on extreme levels of beauty in music and art.
