Looks like Kali needs some leverage for his tail to push against when he goes! :) We have a Quaker and he's trained to "go poooop" in the "trashcan," or on his "paper," "playground," and "towel". If he doesn't have to go, he won't. And if we're not looking, he likes to go where it's the worst to clean up, like against a wall...little butthead!
By the way, nice play set-up there for Kali!

I would be careful when training the bird to do that. I know a bird that was told to go potty every time he was taken out of the cage. He had to go to the vet for a prolapsed bowel. The poor little guy wanted to please so bad, he would strain to go even when he didnt have to, to the point of injuring himself. The vet adopted him so he could train him to stop trying to deficate every time someone would come to his cage.

That's a good point. I've actually heard about that risk before, so I never give him treats or anything. He only really holds it overnight, which my other bird does as well, and he otherwise will poop in his cage all day long. I think holding at night might be instinct - not sure how to break that.
