Three years ago, I was sitting on a beach in France in the early hours of the morning at a beach party drinking with some German friends I had met a few days earlier. It was absolutely freezing and we had run out of firewood. I was massively jealous when I saw one of the girls, named Anja, had thick knitted socks on, and when I found out that her grandmother had knitted them by hand in the colours of the German flag, I made her promise that she would have some made for me and send them over to England.
A year passed, no socks.
The next year, in the same town (lacanau, near Bordeaux) I met Jens, Anja's brother. Anja had not come to lacanau that year, but I had a great time drinking with Jens. Again, I made him promise to send me a pair of these great socks!
Another year passed. No socks.
Again, I set off on my yearly holiday with my mum and girlfriend, but this time I did not bump into Anja or her family.
Another year passed. No socks.
This year we went again, to Lacanau, and I had since given up all hope of seeing my great German friends again. The two week holiday passed without any sign of Anja or Jens, until on the second to last day, I bumped into Anja in the campsite! It was great seeing my friends again, and this time I made them absolutely promise to send me the socks!
A few months later, they arrived!
Thank you SO MUCH Anja & Jens, and make sure you say thank you to your grandmother from me! They are great socks and always make me smile when I put them on! :)
Danke & PROST!
- Henry
