Remembered from my Granddad's 78s collection, but the song dates from the 1890s and was a favourite of Seaside Summer Shows. In mentioned in "Sinister Street" by Compton Mackenzie, in the Chapter "Quadruple Intrigue". The song was supposedly sung by Sylvia Scarlett (the heroine of another C-M book) but this wasn't stated in the book. Anyway, if you like this song, you'll love these books. Promise!
Thank you 1000 times for this song - my immigrant Scottish grandfather (born in 1857) and his cousin walked across the plains from Michigan to St. Joseph Missouri and met two little girls in blue - whom they married. It was a favorite song of my grandmother - which isn't surprising - my mother sang it to me - I sang it to my children, and now I sing it to my 2 year old great granddaughter ...
My Mother use to sing this song to my sister and me when we were young., looking from one to the other to see our reactions Oh! the memories..........
My grandmother sang this song to us. What a delight to be able to find it!
