The success of the 82nd Airborne in Grenada

Using M551 Sheridan and M113 Gavin light tanks to have air-mechanized 3D maneuvers that collapsed enemies or at least blocked their 2D maneuver...made the "Mech Pussies" in the Heavy, tracked "Mafia" running HQDA very ENVIOUS--so they sought to destroy the XVIII Airborne Corps' LIGHT TANK-FORCED ENTRY (parachute airdrop capability) capability to racketeer having to seize a runway and AIRLAND Mech-Ps in heavy tanks THAT REFUSE TO USE MORE RAPIDLY DEPLOYABLE, CLOSED-TERRAIN MOBILE, LIGHT TANKS--let alone PARACHUTE JUMP into combat.

The consequences of the Heavy Whoppertanktard's envious back-stabbing was that while they TOLD 3rd Battalion/73rd Armor to TURN-IN their M551s onto railroad flat cars to ship to NTC to be war game toys THEY PROMISED to re-equip them with M8 Buford Armored Gun Systems, THEN RENEGED once the Sheridans were gone.
Bait & Switch.
I was there as it happened and spoke out against it.

The fatal consequences of the XVIII Airborne Corps not having light tank air-mech capabilities would be soon felt in Afghanistan and later Iraq.
U.S. Army CGSC School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) Major Wunderleh wrote about the Heavy mech-p backstab in his 1997 paper "Forced-In, Left Out: The Airborne Division in Future Forcible Entry Operations:

Now that the Light Infantry Narcissists are running HQDA it remains to be seen if they can see past their at times justified hatred of the Heavyists and not lump in TRACKED vehicles with them to fix this problem and get the Airborne on track again with High Technology M113 Super Gavin light tanks for LVAD forced-entry shock action.
But first in Part 2, let's look at how anti-Airborne envy has seriously harmed U.S. National Security in Afghanistan and Iraq.

They should have replicated this in the opening stages of Iraq, but Nooooooo!!! (Hint: where are the generals who orchestrated the Grenada operation now?)

When called upon in 1990, the ENTIRE 82nd Airborne deployed to Saudi Arabia at full strength within a month --- they sure as hall DID knew "what right looked like" back then.
The SBCTs (which are actually just a single Regiment of troops and equipment, not an actual "Brigade"), which were bought under the auspices of being air-deployable within 4 days, have NEVER deployed by air at full strength in any less than 8 MONTHS.

Wow, even though some of the vehicle choices aren't ideal, the strategies to employ them knock our current military right outta the park. We have to look back as much as we look forward, but obviously we must do both and won't survive with only one of the two.
Nice bits on the Sheridan and SINCGARS, by the way. Was that radio used on the botched 2002 Anaconda Op?
