  • My all time favourite British Transport film, probably because it's my home turf and I can just remember the "old North East" running down from Barnard Castle, via Stainmore to Kirkby Stephen East, Appleby East and finishing up in Penrith.

When men were men, too: "We just get stuck in and dig oursleves out" - and not a hard hat or fluoresecent jacket in sight!

  • Luckily they didn't have to deal with the "wrong sort of snow" back then, otherwise they'd never have got it moving again!

  • BR Standard 2mt 78018 (from the above film) is currently undergoing a full overhaul in Darlington, the locomotive belongs to the Darlington Railway Preservation Society.

These guys really need some PR & Support

  • "when you're on the moore tops with nothing but bad language and the tools you've got" best line ever.

  • Trains now come to a stand when they see a littlest bit of snow fulling but back then that got state to work to help the train and get them running agen as soon as possible.

  • Nice to hear the 'MOTIVE -POWER Word again ! Cus that what it used to be !

  • god what a pig of a job

  • great vid not the norm have you more of the same sort of thing makes a change from just seing trains run .

  • Interesting piece of footage.I'm an active Belgian member of two British train sites? Could I upload this video please. The two sites are "Railway World tv" and "Steam tube".I will certainly mention my source!

  • What I like about this is that the engine which got stuck is now preserved, and is currently being restored. So its sort of a happy ending.

  • This is the heroic sort of film we need to see in these difficult times.

  • @enochsneed

No gloves either. I think I'd want a pair of gloves.
