Copper fouling can actually help long range accuracy as well, Todd from Magpul explains it. Very interesting stuff! It forms a "lining" over the rifling.

Is a wire brush for heavy fouling that's been left on overtime?

It's best not to switch directions inside the barrel, just push it all the way through before pulling it back through the muzzle end.

funny you should mention that.I did a small experiment on my remington 700.I clean my rifle after every time at the range.Around 50 to 100 rounds.Last time I didnt because it seems that the cleaner the rifle the more shells it takes before sub moa.So I left it dirty, went out the next day,was shooting better on first rounds than when I had cleaned it after each time at the range. So,is cleaning bad for accuracy till dirty again, but how bad is it to leave that junk in the barrel and action?

now when he mentioned 5 times through and 5 times back are you saying it is ok to run a wire brush in both directions? from the bolt out, and from the end of barrel back to the bolt. Im asking because I was told to only go in one direction when cleaning which is time consuming but id rather not ruin my rifles by doing something that wasnt good for the inside of the barrel... Thanks
