It is a style which egyptologist have come to recognise what was played in ancient Egypt. It's a style that is commonly linked with ancient Egypt and has stuck with many fantasy games and films. Even if it isn't actually their style at all.
It's something most people in the world notice and so composers will generally go for that.
Don't take it too seriously. It's still a nice theme at the end of the day.
