This is a clip I put together in few minutes to showcase Ableton's Modulated Reverb. I used two different guitar loops into Ableton Live's Reverb (on a Return track, so it's in parallel with the dry sound). I then changed the parameters on the fly in real time (hence why you hear some noises when a certain parameter is changed) to change the diffusion, the decay, you name it.
Eventually I also engaged Guitar Rig 4 with the Psych Delay for pitch shifting, since someone requested me to do it. Just to make clear: I think this whole 'shimmer' thing is ridicules, haha. I'm definitely not a fan of it OR U2 - hence why I didn't fiddle with it some more. If anyone, however, DOES want me to do so, let me know.

I just used the clean channel of the Koch Powertone with the Keeley C4 Compressor, a little analog-like modulated delay and a hint of reverb, both from the G-System.

As you can hear the reverb is really tweakable, especially on a Return patch. I could've played with this for hours, to showcase how you can mix it in with the dry sound more, but I just wanted to showcase the obvious ambient-style reverbs for this clip.

  • do you use ableton live? haha like do you use it in your live rig? i really want to be able to loop in time with samples and sequences. do you use vsts or abletons effects to process your sound live? if so how do you amp it? would i need anything between my audio interface and guitar amps like a line driver or buffer? i was thinking of using a damage control womanizer and just running into a powered pa with some of my board effects

  • @goldenmonkeycolor

I combine it real-time with MIDI and just use the outs of my Axe-Fx ULTRA. I do the same thing with keys and such. Regarding effects: Ableton Live on-board effects and various VSTs.

  • Do you listen to July Skies? This track kinda sounds like it. You can check that out.

  • @maxpanchoo

I think I've heard about them ... but then, anything with huge 'verbs sounds like shoegaze/ambient. ;)

    Read the manual, mate ...

  • @DemoColorScheme can i ask how do you send a reverb just to return track?

  • @Jrock136

Thanks! Anyways, I often use the reverbs on a return track (so, an FX loop, basically). 100% wet and then blending it with the dry signal.

  • Hey Love the sound you just opened up my mind and learned to appreciate more of this type of sound and now I know how important it would be to utilize it Live with my band. I have a question is the reverb acting as an audio effect on the loop guitar you have or are you playing the reverb with another sound seperate? How do you have the reverb routed so that when the guitar plays a chord or note the reverb acts nicely on change of chord or note.

  • sounds really amazing, what notes are you playing?

  • @sonnybrown

    Aight! Pretty cool!
