  • Sorry for the dumb question, but how do you test them? What is the procedure to mimic various atmospheric pressures at ground level?

  • @1VK3 An altimeter simply responds to Static pressure so to get it to operate all you do is lower the pressure on the inlet to the instrument, I have done that here with a vacuum pump; however you have to be extremely careful as the instruments are fragile and as you can see here my vacuum was a bit strong and more violent than I would have liked. They are best left alone to avoid damaging them. Never suck the back of an altimeter to test it, most important if it has a radium painted face.

  • @1VK3 The military uses a piece of test equipment called a TTU-205 and the civilian world uses test sets like those made by Barfield
