http://www.ClearedJobs.Net ClearedJobs.Net's HR Specialist Patra Frame discusses the importance of building your network for a successful job search.

When you're leaving the military, you're leaving family and friends that are generally all within the service and only a few are outside of it.

So you need to find a way to access the hidden job market. The hidden job market represents between 75 and 80 percent of all open jobs at any given time. So it's important for you to learn how to do that. What does that really mean?

Well, it really means you're going to have to learn to build a new and different network. You're going to have to not only take the family, the friends, the friends you left behind when you went in the military. The military folks who have gone before you and left and gone back to the civilian world. But you're also going to have to take and build a network among professional organizations, community organizations in the place you want to go to because it is that network of people, those human connections, that are going to help you to understand where the jobs are, what organizations are the right places for you to succeed and how you get in to those organizations.

This takes time. It takes effort because you have to really connect with people on that human level so that you can help them as well as asking them to help you but it is a critical aspect of your ability to find the right opportunity in your new civilian life.
