We cook chestnuts all the time, outdoors and in, and my fav way to prepare them is to soak them in briny water for an hour or so after you score them but before you cook them. That way when you peel them open, they are already all salted!

These actually grow on the dyke around the corner from my house, i always saw chinese people picking them, but never knew what to do with them. Now I know! Thank you.

Sweet chestnuts are gorgeous - I remember seeing a chesnut seller in London long ago, it looked really Victorian. I do find them quite filling.

Great video. When I used to live in Germany, Landsthul, there were hundreds of chestnut trees up by the old castle. Plant some blackberry bushes, they grow really easy in the wild.

must be great to be able to go out and find food in the forest, I have to get my food the old fashioned way... the store. The forest that i'm closest to has nothing but poisonous berries, great video.

This is my first time commenting on your channel, Mr. Clarke. I am a youtube new guy, forgive me. Love all your lessons and encouragement. Regarding gas mark 7, do you have an oven thermometer you can hang inside? That would be cool for your other kitchen lessons. Yes, I am a Yank. That's why I ask, humbly so. I have one, because my oven dial does not gauge true temp. Technology is great when it works, right?
All the best!
Cheers, Rich.

Hi Aaron, glad you like the vids.
I don't think my oven is big enough for a thermometer LOL!
Just Google "gas mark equivalents" and you will be able to convert to temperatures.
Cheers
rick.
