柴油引擎不再是早期那種馬力小得可憐，過100km/h就有力不從心的缺點；當今的柴­油引擎科技，噪音更輕、馬力更大，當然價格也更貴了！
從2004年開放小型車柴油引擎後，一轉眼將近八年的光陰，在台灣汽車市場幾乎都是德­系品牌所主導的市場，日系車想買柴油車，除非你移民歐洲才有機會；不過也因為這些車廠­的堅持，讓國內消費者也可享有柴油車的特色。
BMW全新大改款的3系列，當然也不能忽略這具4缸柴油搭配8速變速箱的表現，你拿五­年前的柴油車和現在擺在一起，你就知道它進步的地方是在那裡了，不過也因為價錢的考量­，我們還是認為，汽油（尤其直六）引擎匹配3系列還是比較得宜，520d又似乎比32­0d更能讓人接受。
