@Jerrymanda101 if your too ignorant to know about the child abuse sex scandals in the catholic church then you should really educate yourself. and if you do know about them, then you would know that, in almost every case, the priest in question was protected by his higher ups. a quick Google search will lead you to a panorama report that shows he changed the charges against a priest to vs young men, as opposed to vs 14 year olds.

Now you say it's better off without him? That simply contradicts all of your major morals. @Jerrymanda101 1. Google what a chain of command is. 2. He was made Prefect of the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 1981, which is when he became responsible for maintaining moral standards in the Church. So by your reckoning, that means it took him 20 years to work out child molestation was a problem, after covering up several instances of it. 3. You are living under a rock.

@Wincenworks Responsibility for overseeing the activities of priest has always rested with local bishops not Cardinals or Popes in the Vatican. And that continues to be the case today. In 2001 Ratzinger asked and received greater authority to deal with the sex abuse problem. In case you can't count that's 10 years ago not 30 years ago. Regarding your claim, "Letters where he [Ratzinger/Benedict] prioritises reputation over justice". I'll label that as deliberately misconstruing Church documents.
