This is a news report about Kitchen Gardeners International and Kitchen Garden Day. Kitchen Garden Day is a global celebration or very local food, as local as our own backyard. It takes place on the 4th Sunday or August each year.

  • My grandmother grew her own food and raised her own chickens. Only thing she couldn't grow was rice. My uncle had a dairy cow and a goat so there was fresh unpasteurized milk. Grandma lived to be 93, and my uncle is now 80. There's a lot to be said for the old folks' ways. What price have we paid for convenience?

  • Yes! This is the way food should be. Does anyone know that at one time , not so long ago, all food in the U.S. was grown and eaten in the same region? The food in your grocery store now is from anywhere in the world it can be bought for cheap. If you think foreign oil has us in a grip, wait until imported food gets us. foodfromthehands at youtube groups :-)

  • I found this a very interesting video in terms of its theme. I think that there is now far too much food transported thousands of miles when it could be sourced locally. Also, in the UK there are less and less new houses with gardens which is a sad statistic.

As a family, we are trying to promote a greater sense of self-sufficiency in our lifestyle, rather than having to rely solely on the supermarkets.

Also, I like your videos. Have you thought about making some more? Keep up the good work!
