Did my first solo cross-country bicycle ride last summer, Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco to Times Square, New York City. I'm 68 and met so many fun people, it was probably the best time I've ever had. I'm so fired up about touring, I'm doing a North/South Maine to Key West ride this year. No one should go through life without doing it at least once.

Was touring through Japan last summer, I can't agree more with the idea that it really is about the people. Whenever I think back on the places I've cycled, I always think about the people I've met.

I've done a cycling trip around Southeast Asia and then from Thailand to Tibet in 2005 and 2006. For me, cycling is a way to know myself, it told me how to overcome the desire to hitchhike, how to get determined, how to find my own way.
