My American brother marries A-Ju, a Jingpo, in rural China

Originally we were told it was going to be Robert's job, as bridegroom, to kill the yak for the wedding feast. I think the prospect made the family a little nervous (not Rob; he was totally ready for it) so they came up with a reason it had to be done by Tulum, Robert's friend and brother-in-law to be, who is a surgeon and highly respected guy in the community. The stated reason was that it would be bad luck for the groom to kill something so close to the wedding day, but partly I think they figured it would be best not to take chances.
