This powerful scene from the movie Becket shows how the Church exercises the ultimate punishment of Excommunication. It is to shock the individual into repentance; St. Thomas Becket, pray for us.

  • Does anyone know what the monks all say at @2:15

  • @Szpondt "So be it" is what they say.

  • @akosigundam People always assume that the people in God' church must be perfect or the whole thing is discredited. God's church is perfect but is still made up of sinful men. Pray that hypocrisy is overcome rather than simply complaining about it. Poverty of Spirit, not necessarily material poverty. Just because we are sinners does not mean we should stop preaching the truth. We must pray for forgiveness and conversion; not condemnation and hate. Peace

  • @requiemaeturnum Yeah! Yeah! Can you imagine this display just like this movie right here-all the american bishops assembled together exommunicating pelosi biden and all those catholic justices and sebelius and all them jokers? MAN!!!! that would be something wouldn't it!??!!? The message that it would send.... to everyone not just other Catholics.......... ... ...

  • @Kirkee7 Since when has God's Church not been made up of thieves, liars and murderers? We are all sinners why people demand that Churchmen be perfect or the whole system is false is beyond me. Jesus said "You are Peter and upon this Rock I will build my Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it" Jesus gave us a Church not a Bible the Church gave us the Bible what did Christians do before the Bible? Followed the teachings and traditions of the Apostles as we still do today

  • @Kirkee7

No, I won't. Because that would not be me, if your god does not like the way I live, let him tell me, not you.

  • @Szpondt They usually say Fiat, which means "So be it." It's shorter in Latin.

  • @odion07 Quite true, however the Roman Catholic church bears no relationship to what the NT has to say about the doctrine of the Church. If this is not the case then the Reformation would never have happened. Thank God it did providentially happen and so delivered us from those lies and invented traditions that shut people up in darkness for such a long time.

  • @odion07 The Church of Jesus Christ had nothing whatever to do with lineage. Go read the New Testament. Niether was Peter a Pope who lorded it over the Lord's people unlike those hypocrites , thieves , liars and murderes who persecuted Gods' people for over over 1600 hundred years. He didnt wear a triple crown and live in sumptious palaces and force the whole world to bow and kiss his feet or suffer death!!!

  • @johnzkeePW You ignoramuses , why dont you read the NT for the final authority in matters of Faith, Grace and repentance. There is no other means or name under heaven whereby men can be saved from hell and damnation except in Jesus Christ.

You are worng. What did Jesus mean when he said to his disciples ' I chose you, you did not choose me' ?

  • @SadMemories123

    What is considered, invincible ignorance?

  • At the moment, it wasn't. It was prettt severe, because it invalidated all oaths of fielty made to the King. Imagine, all your vassals are free to disobey you. You are no longer part of the Community. And in the Middle Ages, the community is everything.

It was not the end of the world, and as years went by, some Popes overused Excomunication to the point of making it pretty much nothing.
