Emma Frost is one of the X-Men, so it's pretty much impossible for me to hate her, but...

seriously, what is it that so many people see in her that I don't?

And why would they replace Jean Grey with her?

I'm all for having complex characters (like Wolverine and Gambit) that aren't necessarily boy-scouts, but how can you have a superhero who's such a sadistic, slutty, self-absorbed, materialistic bitch?

But that's why we love her -- she is a sadistic, supposedly slutty, self-absorbed, materialistic bitch. She isn't perfect...she isn't the ideal female superhero...she's just Emma Frost, and that's why we love her. She's fucked up.

@aimeeish I think she's got the potential to be an awesome fascinating character, but in my opinion, only a few writers have actually managed to do her justice in the comics. Grant Morrison and Joss Whedon both did a great job painting her as a flawed character with a checkered past, but they made her sympathetic by showing us her vulnerable core, and making her love affair with Cyclops her "redemption"

Still, too many other writers find it easier to just write her off as a one-note bitch.

@friscokid182 Generation X did a really good job of portraying her complexities. I loved her Hellfire Club stint, but you didn't really get to see why she was the White Queen until Generation X came out -- at least readers got some kind of idea of where she came from.
