在許多介紹爵士樂的書籍中，對於爵士吉他手的介紹並不多；但是如果只介紹了一位，那麼必定是魏斯·蒙哥馬利。 生於美國印第安那州的Wes，在20歲時因為聽了CharlieChristian的唱片，而決心要成為一位爵士吉他手，於是開始跟著錄音自學吉他。 。然而白天另有工作的Wes只能在晚上練習，為了不打擾到鄰居，他只好完全使用右手的拇指指肉部份來撥弦以減少音量。 沒想到這種方式所得到的悶悶的柔和音色，竟然成為Wes演奏的一大特色，也讓他被視為CoolJazz時代爵士吉他的代表人物。 除此之外，他大量使用八度音(Octave)來進行旋律演奏的技巧，也成為他的註冊商標。

...Wes直到1959年，才在Riverside唱片公司錄製了第一張專輯"WesMontgomeryTrio"，次年則推出了"TheIncredibleJaz­zguitarofWesMontgomery。這兩張專輯至今仍被視為Wes的最佳專輯，也將他一舉推上最佳爵士吉他手之列。而自64年之後，Wes則轉與爵士樂大廠V­erve合作，錄製了許多結合流行音樂與爵士樂的專輯；67年他則轉至A&M唱片公司，以錄製流行音樂為主，而在銷售上獲得相當的成功。雖然有爵士樂迷認為Wes是"晚節­不保"，不過單憑他的前兩張"純"爵士專輯，便足以使他留名樂史了。只可惜他也和CharlieChristian一樣，在他的事業顛峰時期便英年早逝...

wow awesome. im glad there are other people out there into jazz. ive been play guitar for 4-5 years now. do you have any tips on jazz playing?

I am not sure if i am qualified to give any tips on jazz playing, i just play whats on the tab book! So I am still learning about the art of improvisation as well as learning the guitar in general, but I try to understand why Wes is playing a particular line over the chord change and try to incorporate into my playing as well. you have great phrasing of your lines well doneeeee if at all possible could you upload the full song of "FOUR ON SIX" FROM THAT BOOK with wolf marshall playing it as i want to see which version fo the song he has transcribed or if possible send it to me somehow as i am looking to purchase the book but am unsure of which version it is as i need a prticular version
