I learned from another source that you could coat the back of the plate with clear polyurethane to make it waterproof and washer-safe. You would need to put on 3 coats of it though to really seal everything in, and then let it dry overnight to make sure it's fully dry. I didn't make them, but a friend of mine made hers using pages from old books to make the plates vintage-looking, and they turned out great. :)
You made that look so simple, exactly how I would do it, there have been some very fussy videos on YouTube making extra work out of something that is so simple, well done :)
