This is a great trick for working with the width, height and resolution of an image to get the most out of what you have in a photograph.

  • @HARLOWETV Ohhhhh, alright thanks! I'm planning on printing something to be pressed onto a t-shirt. The universally recognized dpi is 300 for this, but since dpi varies, I wasn't sure. I guess i'll try creating an image in 300 dpi and see how well it turns out printed, and pressed onto a Tee

  • @XylemsAsylum yes , I believe so but remeber they pertain to two different types of mediums .

  • @HARLOWETV Ok, that's what I thought.... In every tutorial they say specifically 'set the dpi to somewhere around 300,' and then the change the pixel per inch to 300. Are they generally close then? Is300 ppi USUALLY about the same as 300 dpi?

  • @XylemsAsylum Pixels per inch have to do with electronic resolution i.e. computer monitors , ipads , cell phones as they work by bunching pixels together to create the image you see on screen . Dots per inch have to do with the resolution during the printing process as printers work by spraying "dots" onto a medium, the more dots per in the better the quality of the print. Hope this helps!

  • I don't get it... Everyone says that the resolution is the same as dpi, when right next to it, it says pixels/inch. Pixels/inch aren't the same as dpi, are they?

  • So, you can change the dpi to 300 at any time to have a better print quality even if an image is originally set at 72 dpi? As long as the pixels remain the same, the dpi can be increased at any time, right?

  • thank you
