While one line-up of the Albion Band was settled in the National Theatre with the production of 'Lark Rise', Ashley Hutchings formed a completely different line-up for touring purposes. They never recorded but a few songs were filmed for a UK television special on the Albions in 1979.
Barry Dransfield is on lead vocals, with Ashley Hutchings, Dave Mattacks,Andy Roberts, Martin Simpson and Doug Morter. Also includes a short Richard Thompson interview.
what a little gem

@caley956 Thanks for writing! I appreciate the info. I only "discovered" him with the Albion Band, but I've been reading up on anything I can find since then. His voice gives one chills it's so hauntingly beautiful. I love a song called "Be My Friend" which is here at Youtube. This was released in '72 so it would have been years before the Albion Band. Anyway I'm just so delighted to have found his music.

@foreverspring Barry is fantastic isn't he. Both on his own and jointly with Robin. He was living in Sussex until fairly recently and had a violin restoration business. I think he's over in Brittany now. He used to occasionally do gigs when in Sussex but don't know if he still does. Maybe pick up on him at a Fest-Noz one day!

j love this song, and this is simply a brilliant version. Barry is such a hauntingly beautiful vocalist, so pure and natural -- effortless, in fact. Why isn't he still out there? Or is he? Does anyone know if he's still performing? His voice blows me away. Wish we had more videos of him -- sigh!

Thanks "nearly" for this - the version isn't as good as the as the inimitable Lief & Liege track - but Barry is a powerful vocalist and brings a great deal to the song here.

And what a great performance from the criminally underrated Barry Dransfield.

I've loved the Fairport version for many, many years now. This is the first time I have heard this version but I think it's great.
