Noel Gay's delightfully cheerful number, "Letting in the Sunshine" in its 1933 incarnation, sung by Sam Browne* with Scott Wood's Orchestra.

*Who's not the guy in the video still--that's actually Al Bowlly. Thanks to saxondog for the correction.

LETTING IN THE SUNSHINE
(Noel Gay)

I'm letting in the sunshine
It's shining everywhere
I'm letting in the sunshine
For both of us to share

I'm opening the windows
For summer's in the air
I'm letting in the sunshine
For both of us to share

Can't you see that all the dull days and grey skies are over?
Can't you see that we'll be living from now on in clover?

While lovely little sunbeams
Are dancing everywhere
I'm letting in the sunshine
For both of us to share.

  • One of my favourite tunes - and Sam Browne is perfect for it. Thanks.

  • You certainly know this period well, znuky--would love to see you post a few vintage vids.

    Best regards,

    -RR

  • Sam Browne had such a pure voice and delivery. But (not to be picky) isn't that a picture of Al Bowlly, another big favorite?

    Thanks ---

  • Thanks, saxon--your channel is likewise a phenomenal archive...let me encourage everyone to click on your name for some real treats!

About the photo, you're absolutely right--it's Al! I've included your correction in the "more information" section. The only youthful photo of Sam I could find was that cigarette card...thought the profile might be his, but the hair and jawlines are wrong on re-inspection.

Wish there were more snapshots available of the 1925-35 Brit artists.

  • Delightful! So sparkly and festive, I love it and I love that piano solo. Thank you so much for another FEEL GOOD song.

  • Yes! Sweet clarinet, too...Browne had a "Mid-Atlantic" style of crooning. Great energy.

  • Who would have imagined that this carefree song would be unable to be heard in a decade due to the Second World War?

  • They dont make em like they used to thats for sure!

Besides anything goes this is my favorite song of his.

  • If i could rate this!!! It would be at least 10 STARS!! Double Awsomes!

  • I love it!

I was looking for Sam Browns "I dont want to go to bed" but this is just as delightful.

    Thank you
