Here is "D-Fender" shown on the Mattel Electronics Aquarius computer. As the name suggests, this is a Defender clone. The game was made by a third party company in Europe after Mattel had already paid Radofin to take back the marketing rights. While an ambitious attempt for the Aquarius, D-Fender has some problems. The gameplay is fun, but the lack of AY sound makes the game grate on your nerves after a short while. I'd prefer silence to that incessant buzzing sound. With no support for the gamepads, the keyboard controls are a bit clunky. It's also a shame we don't get to actually save any humans. Still, this game is an accomplishment, and a great addition to the Aquarius game library.

You can't make it out, unless you watch the video on fullscreen, but there is a graphic effect for thrust shown behind your ship.

  • I think your supposed to save the red guys...

Sadly, no. I mentioned in the video description that it is one of the aspects of the original game that is sorely missed. Even the score table shown at the start of the game tells you that shooting a red guy is worth 500 points. What kind of sick and twisted game awards points for shooting hostages?? ;)

  • @MattelAquarius Still VERY cool though!

Agreed! A Defender type game that looks pretty darn close, and has most play elements? Well done.
