@robjvarney Silly rule. This game was on "The Big Match" and was more of a colour clash for black and white viewers than if Chelsea had stayed in blue and Birmingham had changed to white. The 1968 FA Cup Final between Everton and WBA was a strange one too, with both teams playing in their away strip.

@robjvarney Funnily enough that match - Chelsea 3 Ipswich 0 - was the very first Match of the Day I saw later that night.

@getoutmefase As long as u care about our history and crazy traditions, you're proper Chels! What other club in world football has a song about a vegetable and throws around celery? We are a great unique club with a rich history.

@robjvarney nice one rob...great name and a great taste in football...~s~

@robismename Rob is my name too! I was at this game, aged 12. My first game was also FA Cup 3rd round in 1968 v. Ipswich.

@marchadier1 The FA Cup rules at the time were that, if both teams' colours clashed, then they would BOTH play in their change strip. I was at this game, aged 12. My first game was also FA Cup 3rd round in 1968 v. Ipswich. Once again, both teams' colours clashed and so they played in the same change strips, Chelsea in yellow and Ipswich in white.

Havent seen anyone answer this yet, but anyone know why we, and Biringham, both seem to be playing in their away kits?

Thank you Catherine for the great memories from Stamford Bridge. I experienced a great atmosphere when I watched Chelsea beat Liverpool in the FA C up in 1982, being located in the famous 'shed'. How things have changed at the bridge, but being a nostalgic specimen, I long for the good old days when the FA Cup was the greatest cup competition in the World!
it's nice to see you support Aldershot because with a smaller club you feel so much more attached. How do you find such video clips?
Aled
This video clip was from the Pathe News website where you can search through their archives for a whole variety of stuff including of course football matches some of them back as far as the 1920s.
Like many Chelsea supporters back in the 70s I also used to trundle down to Fulham sometimes & because of that still do. Last season at their old ground watching Fulham beat Juventus was very reminiscent of a 1970s cup game!

I'm A Birmingham fan...fuck, how much do we (and I presume like Chelsea) miss the days' of the terrace. The atmosphere in grounds today is shit compared to those days. Great video...and you had a lucky win!

Miss the terraces, as I said below I watch the Shots mostly these days - and they still have terraces- in fact their ground has hardly changed sine I saw them play Man Utd in 1970

It did which was strange as it was so open. I can't relate to Chelsea now, I never thought I would say that but I find the top of the Premier league so meaningless. Luckily I always supported Aldershot as well!!!! Good times there these days.
