I soaked my HP POS in salty water for 3 days and 3 nights, then I set it out in the rain for 2 days, one night. By the next full moon, I had repeated this ritual repeatedly ... surprisingly my HP POS still doesn't work.

@doct0rthrill: It's not necessarily the motherboards (of which HP uses a multitude of suppliers), but rather the fact that the integrated video chip either becomes unseated or faulty do the the lack of cooling provided by the heatsink and fan. The brave souls can try replacing or re-seating the chip, but it usually results in a damaged motherboard. Of course, at that point it needs to be replaced ... which is what should have been done to start with.
Good luck!

black screen.boot issue continued..Then uncover and let it cool fully (i let mine set overnight) then power up (plug in the power cord first) by pressing the power button! it works it worked for me.. now I need to find out how long it will last!

if you are having black screen, and boot issues (will not boot lights come on hard drive clicks then goes off , or reboots over and over and still does nada) with f500 just unplugg, leave the battery installed, wrap in heavy blanket or quilt. Press power button and while it is acting like it wants to boot cover it real good, let it set like a hour after 25 to 30 minutes (into the process) you should hear the fan running, let it set the remainder of the time...

@911noobster buy a heatgun from walmart for about $20 and clean off the GPU and then reflow it with your heatgun. Then done! but do my fan mod or it'll come back! Trust me it did after 2 months for me! :/ but its been running for 4 months now with no probs with my FREE fan mod i did. :D just a little soldering and your done.

@911noobster its the GPU just reflow it and it'll work oh and check out my video to keep it running with a simple fan mod :D
If you see the HP logo come up you are right its a diff problem... you either have a bad hard drive or some corruption some where... try booting with the repair disks you should have made... If you did not do that try downloading a small version of linux that is a live cd... and see if you can recover any of your data... worst case take it to your local Geek...

this is a scam. look at all his friends writing good stuff down there. these "guides" can't help cause the same issues can be caused by different things. there is no holy grail or one size fits all solution. hp is known to make faulty motherboards and there is nothing anyone can do to help. this guy caught on to hp's tricks and used them to make a quick buck himself.
