A fan at a Comic-Con panel asks Grant Morrison why he decided to make Aquaman a badass in his run on JLA and then Morrison speaks the truth.

@CrimsomS Also, every year, a Lovecraftian monster tries to cross from its realm to the DCU's, and every year, Aquaman teams up with Etrigan the Demon to drive it back into its own dimension. That's right, Aquaman beats up Cthulhu on an annual basis. Also, an early example of badassery: in a 1942 story, he tracks down a pack of seal hunters in the Arctic. They're on land and he's offshore. So he grabs a nearby POLAR BEAR and THROWS it at them with one arm like it was a softball.

@kiisfriend Well he kinda doesn't need to, Aquaman was just as cool as any other hero. People just seem to only think of the Superfriends version of him when talking about him. The guy is nigh invulnerable, a skilled warrior, wields the trident, is able to command any sea creature and is the king of the sea, that's over half of the planet. Oh and he rides a giant seahorse.

It always amuses me how the Aquaman hating trolls surface to spew their venomous little barbs when a video is posted on YouTube that shows the Marine Marvel in a positive light. I mean it seriously. Those little kid-like posts often make me laugh, or at least chuckle. After I've had my amusement I just tend to pity them.

It's good to see Aquaman get retooled, but now he's a little Hulk-ish. I mean what's next? He going to be able to use Omega Beams and breath in space?  I imagine the Hulk soon being able to project gamma death beams from his hands or something, since they keep making him stronger and stronger just to surpass Superman as comic champion it seems. DC has been doing the same with Aquaman now. Beefing him up is one thing, making him the end game is rediculous.
