It has nothing to do with chemical makeup, we did this trick in chemistry class and it worked with ordinary rocks. It has something to do with the surface area of whatever is being placed in the soda.

Um what.... We did this in class with rocks. So yes if you took ice with the same surface area of the menthos then yes it would work. Im telling you I saw this with my own eyes in chemistry...
