In this video I show one of the items I have in my firestarter kit. The "fire wicks" are like candles without all the wax an work very good at starting fires with tinder that might be slightly damp.
Fire wicks are not my idea. I'm pretty sure I got it out of one of the books in my collection called, "Practical Outdoor Projects" by Len McDougall. If you haven't seen or don't have this book in your library you are truely missing something.

  • Make a bunch. They are great for starting a fire on a rainy day.

  • Excellent idea.

    Thanks

  • Good idea. Something else I've found work as a good tinder is waxed cardboard like they use for milk cartons. I cut it into 2 inch lengths and keep it in my fire kit. Burns well.

  • Very nice! This is a good tip! Good video Hiram.
