Decades of consumer debt and a political refusal to match tax and spending commitments.

In 1956, the US used this financial leverage to stop the UK, France and Israel from their campaign against Eqypt in 1956.

The US were right here, however there will come a time when China uses similar leverage against a US military adventure that clashes with their own priorities.

Interesting, also a reminder of how even Allies screw you at times.

The same happened with a range of other technologies sent to the US, promises of, but nothing in return.

The last of the wartime and postwar aid, with interest, was paid off on Dec.31 2006.

It will be interesting to see how the US, with it's mountain of debt with China, will cope with this new reality, nations with massive debts do not stay as top dogs, as the British found in 1945.
