@flubber342 To actually answer your question, I think it has more to do with the meaning of the phrase "The Big One" translating to Spanish very well.
Since I don't speak spanish I used Google translate. From English to Spanish, "The Big One" is "El Grande". But from Spanish to English "El Grande" is "The Large". So I think they just use the term "The Big One" as an actual name for that type of accident.
