Two jigs that I first heard Kevin Burke play. The first is called 'The rose among the heather' and the second is a Jerry Holland tune called 'Stan Chapman's Jig'

  • how did you get the intonation so nice. I'm learning fiddle and having a devil of a time trying to learn how to hit the notes as sqarely as you do. Really nice playing

It will happen naturally after a few years. You will need to practice regularly. Enjoy your fiddle playing and play along with other fiddle players.

  • that fiddle sounds awsome..? kind is it? it has great tone..i was thinking of makeing one...and i hope it sounds like that one ...god bless ya ...george

  • rubylaser163

It's a Jay Haide. I went into a shop that had one second hand and I liked it. I think it was made in china and then given some sort of a makeover in America. Not entirely sure, except it's one of my favourite fiddles.

Making their own fiddle is the ultimate ambition for a lot of fiddle players. Good luck.

  • You're super - inspirational to watch/listen to and you play with such...enjoyment? Who cares if your technique isn't what someone wrote in a book hundreds of years ago - the fact is you make it sound fabulous and you're very talented. Well done, sir!

Thank you for the very kind comments. I think you hit the nail on the head. Enjoyment and fun are the only things I really think about when I play fiddle. Technique and correct methods for the holding the fiddle and bow are the furthest from my mind.

I think I have that book somewhere gathering dust.

YouTube wasn't invented or the internet, when I was first attempting to scratch out a fiddle tune. So no help there either.

  • my gawd sir you play stunningly

  • I would also like to say that you play wonderfully, and I love your channel. Truly a talented individual.

  • It pains me to see music such as this described as "Iris music." - I'm not saying the Irish shouldn't be proud of their heritage, but people seem to forget that the music styles of England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales are all incredibly similar, and historically no different from each other at all, apart from very minor differences. Yet everything is called Irish, or Scottish, and the rest are forgotten. I wish there were a term, like Scandinavia, to call the British isles and its great music.

  • @peakfiddler I just read that you are self taught and this is a massive inspiration to me! I am teaching myself too (using CD's and videos etc) so its great to hear you playing so amazingly. Its hard work I find but hearing you has really given me a buzz and lots of enthusiasm. Also, regarding the comment about technique.. well who cares what technique you use, its the great sound that comes out of yer fiddle that matters rather than how you hold it. Thanks so much mister!!

  • @nachovazquez290690 I'm Thai and I've been amazed about Irish jigs either. I've always loved their sounds and music and dancing and everything ... I love it too!

  • Simply wonderful.

You sir are a genius :D

    Firstly, amazing playing.

Also, I used to play along with songs on guitar to get better, I have no fucking idea why I haven't been doing that with the fiddle. Only been playing a few weeks now and it sounds fucking woeful :p Watching people like you really gives me inspiration to get good at it.

  • you sure the second jig isn't a modified version of the kesh? excellent job by the way
