If you want to model that British large format console inside of SONAR X1 you now can. On channel strips insert the PC4K S-type Channel Compressor, Expander / Gate and the PC EQ set to vintage. This will give you the same sound as functions as a channel strip on the console. If you want to change the routing in ways that you cannot do on the real thing simply drag and drop the modules into the order you want. One trick many engineers use is to set the ratio of the channel strip compressor to infinity (all the way up) as this makes the compressor become a limiter. You can do the same thing using the channel strip compressor. Don't forget the PC4K Channel S-Type channel strip compressor emulates the makeup gain circuit and has something the hardware does not which is an output control so you can push things a little further.

  • Great, but that's what any compressor can do. Why should I shell out 50 bones for this one?

  • @dmmusicsound Yes any compressor can. But how it does it, how quickly it does it, and the results it creates is the difference. The PC4K S-Type has a particular sound. (in that it's awfully transparent in tonality), has a very classic, straight-forward interface, and integrates seamlessly into the ProChannel, making it super-handy and space-saving. Whether or not that functionality is worth a certain price to you or not is wholly subjective. ;-)
