1. 仰げば尊し  我が師の恩
 教えの庭にも  はや幾年（いくとせ）
　 思えばいと疾(と)し  この年月(としつき)
　 今こそ別れめ  いざさらば

2. 互いに睦(むつみ)し  日頃の恩
 別るる後(のち)にも  やよ忘るな
　 身を立て名をあげ  やよ励めよ
　 今こそ別れめ  いざさらば

3. 朝夕馴れにし  学びの窓
 蛍の灯火（ともしび)  積む白雪
　 忘るる間ぞなき  ゆく年月
　 今こそ別れめ  いざさらば

It is a very famous singing that has been widely sung as a graduation ceremony song in Japan until today since 1884.
However, this original tune was reported to have been discovered it was in USA with the newspaper on January 24, 2011.
It was collected to "The Song Echo" of the book that had been published with USA in 1871.

全国の卒業式で歌ってほしい・・・

時の舞さま、お久し振りです。

「仰げば尊し」、この唱歌も実に素晴しいです。卒業の時期には、­何に付けても思い出される唱歌ですね。静かで深い、こころ豊かな­余韻に満ちています。ところが、この歌が最近では卒業式に歌われ­ないとか？と聞きます。本来、教育と云うものは、師の生徒への愛­と、生徒の師への尊敬により、成り立つものですが、しかし、現在­、「先生はお友達」というのが、学校の状況のようで、先生も、自­分を師として自覚せず、生徒も、師を尊び自分を学びの徒弟として­自覚していない。この様な状況が多々見られるらしい。この歌のこ­ころは、そこでは死んでいます。ですが卒業式には、この唱歌を歌­って欲しい。生徒に漢語の持つ深さ、精神性を、この歌が気付かせ­てくれる事を期待したいと思います。

歌の美しさを賞賛だけすれば良かったのですが、独善的な不適切な­コメントで申し訳ありません。
