  • Height does help in long jump because of this little thing called gravity. If long jumpers jumped straight out with no height they would never jump 26, 27, 28, or 29 feet. You jump up AND out to allow time for the decent and preparation for the landing to get every inch out of the jump. Long jump is extremely technical and if you think you can just run as fast as you can and jump and expect to be even close to world class you are sadly mistaken.
