@fordcomets hey man.. I've been playing bass for about 10 years, let me tell you... if you've never played before you shouldnt be starting with thrash metal. You should learn all your notes and learn your instrument. Thrash requires speed and precision. By the way.... thrash is not one of the hardest types of music to play... if you want hard music to learn on bass, I would suggest at taking a gander at Geddy Lee, Chris Squires, Flea, or Victor Wooten

Hi!! I was wondering how you get such muted notes, they hit well and I'm struggling stopping them ringing out

All those muted notes are done with my fretting hand (left hand).
You must slap the string while simultaneously touching the string lightly (without pressing onto the fret wire) with your fretting hand.
I hope this helps.

It is quite repetitive, so I suggest you play each section as many times as necessary to learn by sight and sound.
Essentially the line is comprised of octaves, the 6th and flat 7th. The notes are E, C# and D.
Bass of Luck and thanks for your interest and appreciation.
George
P.S. You can learn how to create this type of line yourself with my 12-part Slap Bass Video Series.

I'm 14 and want to learn base
My friends have a band and a bass I can borrow but I have never played in my life do you have any pointers for me?
They play Thrash metal (if that helps)
Am I right in thinking Thrash is one of the hardest types of music to play?
P.S I've found your videos very helpful and have been practicing whenever I can on whatever I can (mainly my knee)

Hello and thanks for getting in touch.
I started with a borrowed bass too!
First, just copy (part of) what the guitarist is playing. That is usually a good start. Listen to bass parts in your chosen genre and see how the bass relates to the other instruments and vocals. Then use similar ideas and concepts.
Thrash can be hard because of speed and stamina - so get to work :)
Kind regards,
George
