This is my connemara pony Andy learning to bow, this is only the 4th day that I have been teaching him and he is going really good! In a couple of weeks I will post an update on his bowing and hopefully by then he can do it just off the voice command.

I would also love to teach him how to lay down but am unsure how, any suggestions?

  • wow your horse is good! any suggestions? my mare is old and wont go much further than 0:12 Do you know any ways i can build up her back flexibility?

  • hhhmm I'm sorry I can't help too much, this guy went all the way down on his knee the first time I tried but thats only because he wanted the carrot so bad. If you think it is hurting her I definately wouldn't try it but if not the only thing I can suggest is just encouraging her to lean back with a carrot and giving the carrot to her every time she leans back furthur than usual. Hope that helps but if you are pacient, you can get a horse to do anything!

  • that looks really great! To lay down, once they get really good at the bow(he is getting there, you just sort of push them over a bit.

I am teaching my horse right now too and she actually layed down by accident because she wanted the treat so badly!

  • Haha! that sounds cute :P Thanks for the advice and good luck with your horse.

  • ok,thanks alot. that really helped. ur horse is really pretty

  • Thanks so much, I hope it works with your horse but if your pacient you can get a horse to do just about anything so long as you ask for a little bit at a time.

  • i had a red mustang, ronny, who refused to reduce himself to bowing and i followed the training to the letter- bless his little wild heart.

  • you've gotta show me how to teach em to do that!

  • I started by holding his leg saying 'bow' and I would put the carrot between his legs and he would lean back and follow the carrot down, when he gets down I feed him a couple more pieces of carrot. After I did that for about 10 times I would just show him the carrot (between his legs) and then take it away so that he would go down without having to follow a carrot down. When he got the hang of that I can now just pick up his leg and say 'bow' and he will go down and wait for his treat.

  • ur horse is gorgeous. thats really cool how he bows on command. if u dont mind me asking howd u teach him to bow on command
