  • Private businesses should be unionized. Before the unions there were robber barons and children working in factories. People worked for too many hours, in horrible conditions and for slave wages.

  • @jimbobubbadj

We're moving backwards as far as workers rights are concerned, that much is for sure!

  • If the workers don't like the way they are treated, they should leave. It's that simple.

It's called a free market. They hire and fire who they want, and employees can chose to work there or not.

No company can survive if it's losing good employees.

  • @YYZpresto

I see your point. But I think Teletech's Kalispell call center can be salvaged by having it unionized. A Teletech Union is the Only Solution :o)

  • @YYZpresto the business community is making sure we DO NOT have a free market by making sure the labor force is flooded with very high levels of immigrants who are willing to work for less.

  • @YYZpresto keep in miund that in a tight job marked employees cant reallly "choose" where they work. you are forced to take what is available. so why not force the company to pay a little better? you can bet the company belongs to "unions" or trade organizations like the chamber of commerce or the nfib. with 5 or more unemployed people for every job, what we have is hardly a "free market", it is a fully controlled "employers" market.

  • @HansBooBee Your right the government should have a very limited role in business they destroy almost evrything they touch.Look at the post office(Ben Franklin) works pretty well (200 years)keeps cost down for the industry then they make outragous demands of them raising their cost of doing business and now it's on it's way out.If we lose the postal service fedex ups ect. rates will skyrocket.Yet another attack on the founding fathers.

  • @Holmes1313 I totally agree, but it's always a bad idea when government gets involved with these matters. Hell, it's bad when government rubs elbows with private enterprise too, look what happened with the Ludlow massacre. I think it's good that people organize to drive up wages that are currently just pitiful. I also think when government gets involved, you'll have people doing simple tasks, getting overpaid, hurting the job provider.

  • @Holmes1313

I agree with you. We would never have gotten a minimum wage had it not been for the unions. At one time a person could support themselves on earning a minimum wage, those days are long gone though thanks to the Fed wrecking the currency's buying power.

  • @HansBooBee MY thoughts are that before unions we had children working in factories and tons of employee abuses(most people with power don't do the right thing) but the unions can go a bit far.
