Battle of Stalingrad - Part 1

The Battle of Stalingrad was a major battle of World War II in which Germany and its allies ( Croatian, Hungarian, Italian and Romanian) fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad (now Volgograd) in southwestern Russia. It took place between 17 July 1942 and 2 February 1943. The battle's outcome was disastrous for Germany, making its victory in the East impossible.The battle marked the turning of the tide of war in favour of the Allies.

The Croatian 369th Reinforced Infantry Regiment (also known as the Croatian Legion) was the only non-German unit selected by the Wehrmacht to enter Stalingrad city during assault operations. It fought as part of the 100th jager division.

it might have been possible to defeat russia if the japanese had invaded russia instead of attacking the us. after the japanese brought the us into the war it was game over for the axis

the red army was undergoing a major refit in 41, they were the best army in the 30's but Stalin killed many senior officers and cancelled some military programs. This hurt the red army, that's why they did so bad against germany in 41. But if it hadn't been for that the germans would have been defeated earlier. The russians had a blitzkrieg of their own, it was called "deep battle" they came up with it before the germans, some say the germans copied it.

Sigh.....If I were Hitler, I would cancelled all war before Operation Barbarossa, Took Down Nazi Regime, dismantled all offensive rule, pay retribution towards all country that have been victimized, improved industrial and agricultural aspect, and stand down, then took a gun and shoot myself, so that Germany would not need to suffer this stupid war and cause death to people due to Nazi Racism Ideology and Psychotic Cruelty. Let World War II started by someone else.

@D3cyTH3r You said that there was a breakdown in communication that lead to Paulus thinking he had to take the city, when that was actually always the plan, even after receiving all of the correct information Hitler was in complete denial about the real situation, he refused to refused to pull troops back and repeatedly told Paulus to capture Stalingrad at all costs.

@PrivateJoker17: I never said "there was a breakdown in communication early in the battle between Paulus and Hitler" -I was highlighting the breakdown in communication between OKH and OKW in as few words as possible (-which existed since winter '42 because Hitler had ravaged the army with dismissals, become increasingly distrustful of OKH, and was becoming a recluse) - the fact remains OKW had always planned to by-pass/encircle stali' if resistance was too stiff and swing North
