Commissioned for the Black Dyke Band's solo spot at the 2002 European Gala Concert in Belgium this is a movement taken from a larger work 'The Call of the Cossacks'. The Cossacks were a nomadic people whose ethnic makeup included Ukrainians, Tartars, Poles and Jews. The Fire Dance is in the Klezmer style and features five soloists.

Cornet -- Lucien Rey
Xylophone -- Robbie Eyre

The University of Manchester Brass Band was formed in October 2011. The band provides regular performing opportunities for brass players in the University through the brass band medium, and consists of both music and non-music students from The University of Manchester, with the addition of several members from the Royal Northern College of Music. Jonathan Evans, a student on the conducting programme in Manchester formed and conducts the group.
