I never heard the story of the original cut. What was it? I read in the cd booklet that george clinton told him to play as if he just heard that his mother died and then he found out that she was alive again. Am I close? I like this version the best

Funk's best LP! It's a hell of a song to start an LP with and then ya get Super Stupid, Hit it and quit it, etc. And "Mother Earth is [still] pregnant... for [we'all] have knocked Her up! I have tasted the magots in the mind of the universe! I was not offended for I knew [we] must rise above it all or drown in our own shit!!"
Peace!

@alexbruce9 It's all good I like the live version from 1978 in Houston. Mike was in rare form killing maggot brain. Eddie is the man I know but I stay away from comparing the two. It's like having two kids. You love them both but each have their own gift. No one can take that away. Eddie and Mike have different styles and both have contributed to the evolution of PFUNK.

@s4ujxm Cool, Good to know the correct information. (56)
Still an "Emotional Blitz" no matter who plays it. PS Did find a better version of the piece last night, I corrcted myself on the review.

@alexbruce9 I hear what you are saying but with all do respect I disagree. I too grew up with PFUNK (51). This was a live recording in Monroe Louisiana back in 1978. Also the One nation under the groove album gives credit to Mike for his performance of this song. This was done right after Glenn Goins death.

@s4ujxm Hmmmm, thank you. All info I have lead me to believe it was Eddie Hazel, I know Michael Hampton plays it with Eddie Hazel on some of the shows and it sounds like they are tripping over eachother.. First time the piece got my attention was on a Widespread Panic Live show. And I grew up w/ PFunk. Go Figure.
-
@alexbruce9 Sorry but this is not Eddie Hazel playing. It's Michael Hampton. Mike performed the live versions of this song when PFUNK was on tour.
