I owned this car, the 1984 year version. It was with out a doubt the WORST car I ever owned!
You know your in trouble when you've taken the car back to the dealer to fix the latest problem and you end up being on a first name basis with the mechanic! I had that car back for repairs every 3 months. After 2 years of the car I sold it!

ill have to see a version without the bumpers to tell what the car looks like

its in really good shape, the bumpers and the headligths are different from the european and latin american version, and the manual windows are really weird to see in this car (because ive never seen it before) its a great car, i still have mine (1984) and i love it.

Looking around the internet, it also seems that the Renault 18 estate was sold (as the "Sportwagon") through American Motors (AMC) in the North American market from 1981 to 1986, and the saloon was sold in 1981--82 as the Renault 18i. Aparently they didn't sell well, and I don't remember ever seeing them on the road or even knowing that they were available.

The American Renault 9 (as the Alliance) and the Renault 11 (as the Encore) were actually assembled at the old Nash factory in Kenosha Wisconin (though most of the components came from France).

For a while in the 1980s Renault owned AMC Motors and the Fuego and the Renault 9 (as the Alliance) and the Renault 11 (as the Encore) were all sold in North America and were fairly popular.
I don't know how many are still around. I'm sure there aren't many as well maintained as 8015LasCruces's Fuego or many still with their original owners either.
Wonderful car! - well done for keeping it going for all these years!

Hello, I do not speak very well the Englishman, but queria to say that I am charmed with the RENAULT 18 and the FUEGO, and the versions of USA are very showy, here in españa was very popular 18 and slightly less the Fuego...
There are many in the USA? And of pieces do I me imagine that not habra much not? THANK YOU
