  • I was SO happy to see this.. I was the person who requested this song that night..

I NEVER yell out song names but was moved to do so.. what a gift I was given. Thanks for posting this video!!

  • @kellokid If you're from NJ, you should check out some great shows we're doing in Woodbridge. see hoppersmusic "Music On Main Street" for details. Past shows David Bromberg, Marshall Crenshaw, Roger McGuinn, Raul Malo, Les Dudek.....

  • This is my favorite Lyle Lovett song

  • My wife's too! My favorite of his covers (Guy Clark wrote this one) is Flying Shoes written by Townes Van Zandt. Thanks for the comment!

  • Saw this song live for the first time about 4 years ago. Definitely one of the greatest compositions ever written.

"It's funny how I've love that book, but I never loved that girl."

  • Just another reason to love Lyle, scary to think this song would have been lost to the world if not for his friendship with Guy Clark. It scary to think how many gems perfectionist like Guy might have tossed because they didn't recognize when they reached perfection.

  • @kellokid thank you for requesting this song...love this version even more than the studio recording. Loved this song from the first time I heard it....thanks again.

  • ...Should be looking for Lyle... and some hoppers :-) Thanx for that stuff mate!

  • What an honor to hear Lovett play this song with Guy Clark sitting beside him at the Edmonton Folk Festival. A beautiful song and one of my favorites of all time.

  • @BigKazzy I'm compiling a list of "your father's songs" ....criteria: old songs that you've known the words to since you were a kid. Mine? Istanbu (the original 1953 Four Lads) and Poco Loco in the Coco. both are on Youtube...check them out.

  • I heard this song for the first time some 20 years ago...loved it at first listen. It wasn't until I got a computer of my own last year that I heard it again. That room is kind of etched in my mind's eye. I'm glad to see others have been listening to it as well. Seems I can't type and listen (who knew)....so I'll just replay.

  • It's such an irony that this might be my favorite Lyle Lovett song. I think his greatest strength is writing, and this is an album of songs written by others. However, this song was actually never recorded prior to this, and Lyle made it his own as a result. This album is so great because Lyle thinks so highly of the people who wrote these songs; they were big influences on him. He treats the songs like they're gold.
