Yeah, it gets worse, though. I actually have this bladed thing with a motor on it that butchers all the grass in my yard! :-) That's even sicker!

Idk if they work (I don't own a shotgun), but American Specialty Ammo sells bolo shot, made with two balls connected by piano wire or something. Sounds neat, but rather unbelievable.

Do you ever have any failures to eject or feed when shooting light loads/bird shot?

When I first bought it 20 years ago, I did. It didn't like light field loads and would malfunction occasionally. There was never a problem with warmer loads.
After about five years, it would function with anything. Still does.
